Trip to Yogyakarta

3rd January 2017

My family and I went to Yogyakarta to spend our school holidays. We began our journey by waking up at 4:00 a.m. and departed by our car half an hour later. We stopped at a local fried chicken restaurant mid-journey since we barely had breakfast. After eating, we continued our 10 hours long journey. The moment we arrived at Yogyakarta, we had to stop at a steakhouse and had our lunch. The size of the steak was small but it was well worth. It was evening and we headed to our hotel to check in. We stayed in the room for a while to pack our stuffs and went out again to have dinner. We had Nasi Gudeg and walked around Malioboro Street for a short while. We headed back home with taxi and slept the rest of the day.

We woke up due to the alarm I set last night. We got ready and ate Soto Ayam in a nearby restaurant. We went to another long journey to the Borobudur Temple. It was really hot there and we had to use sarung since they really respect their culture. It was really crowded that it took us 1 hour to go up each level. After a long time, we finally reached the top. I went out with every part of my clothes soaking wet. I changed clothes in the car and headed to Prambanan Temple to view the sunset. I slept the whole journey until the sounds of trickling water were caught by my poor sense of hearing. It was raining hard, so we decided to go back to the hotel. When we reached the hotel, it was already night. We went to bed early as we were excited for the next day.

5th January 2017

Today, we were ready way before our parents woke up. We took off to the beaches located around Gunung Kidul. My dad suggested to go to a beach that had lots of markets for eating. But the beach we first went to had a very dirty water. We then decided to go to another beach and head back later for lunch. This time, the beach was way wider and cleaner. We had lots of fun and made a "sand angel" out of me. We headed back to the previous beach and ate seafood. The lobster there was really big but the fried calamari was really oily. We finished our food and headed back to the hotel. We had dinner at a mediterranean restaurant that was really delicious. The portion of the food was really big as well. Even when I was really full, I forced myself to eat it since it was really delicious. I had carbonara penne, my younger sister had mozarella pizza and my dad had JUMBO-sized duck burger. I was really full that I could barely walk to the car and jumped to bed.

6th January 2017

My younger sister couldn't wait today since we were finally going to go swimming. We swam for hours and I tried to bath in a freezing cold spa. After that, we took shower and went back to Malioboro Street and shopped at the Beringharjo Market. We bought batik clothes as goodie bags for our relatives back at Bandung. I couldn't stand walking around in hot and crowded places for too long so I, with my mom and younger sister went to Starbucks for a drink. After that, we went back to the hotel. My dad taught me how to play billiards at the hotel's games facility. I had a lot of fun and also a lot of rest after these 3 days of non-stop traveling.

7th January 2017

Today, we had our final swim at the pool before our journey back home. We bought tons of bakpia for goodie bags as well since it was the signature snack of Yogyakarta. We got a free tour around the factory and had a sample. It was really delicious but unfortunately, I forgot to ask for more. We went back home feeling tired but fresher than our journey to Yogyakarta.
